2019 Self-Direction Conference Breakout Session: The 21st Century Cures Act requires states to implement an Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) System for Personal Care Services (PCS) by January 1, 2020 and for Home Health Care Services (HHCS) by January 1, 2023. States may, however, apply for a one-year extension if they have made good faith efforts to comply and they have encountered unavoidable delays in implementing the system. During this session, George P. Failla, Jr. Deputy Division Director of the Division of Long Term Services and Supports and Ryan I. Shannahan, a Subject Matter Expert for EVV from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) provide a brief overview of the Cures Act requirements and a review of the timelines for states to request a good faith effort extension.
