What Happens When a Caregiver is No Longer Capable or Alive to Administer the Self-Direct Model of Care? Rick Thompson, parent and the Executive Director of Champions Community Foundation and Rita Young, parent and private consultant, will discuss a new Georgia-based project that is underway seeking answers to this critical issue. This cutting-edge initiative is driven by families and people with disabilities. In Georgia, approximately 4,000 families self-direct waiver services. Despite the additional responsibilities placed on the caregiver or individual, the program is successful, and families are satisfied with the model of care.
